| 6-12-06 Area filmmakers participated in the St. Louis leg of the annual 48 Hour Film Project competition this weekend. Our organization had two teams representing the region: the Schrader Turner Films team and the Section Six Productions team! The STF team was headed up by Steve Turner, Michael Huntington, and Pat Bond. The Section Six group was lead by Charles Parsons, Victor Kanchev, and Carrie Lloyd. Both teams had ample crew, cast, and equipment! Both groups completed films, but unfortunately the Six team did not deliver by deadline for competition. Both films will be shown, however, in St. Louis this Wednesday the 14th and Thursday the 15th at the Tivoli Theater to packed houses. Info on these screenings can be found by visiting the 48 Hour website through the link below. For the STL competition this year the required character was Leo or Linda Garren - Bank Manager, the line was: "Is that all I am to you?" The necessary prop was a shopping bag. The STF team pulled "silent film" and produced a film entitled "A Dirty Job." Michael Huntington directed with Pat Bond editing and Joel McCrary starring in this short Chaplin-esque comedy. The Section Six group got "fantasy film" and came up with a work called "In the Bag" which was written and directed by Charles Parsons with Victor Kanchev producing and directing photography. Thanks to all who participated and did such an outstanding job! We'll see you again on future projects and on the 48 Hour Film Project 2007! * The Southeast Missourian wrote a profile article on Cape's participation with this event! It will soon be linked through our press page, but in the meantime can be found by visiting the SE Missourian website and typing in the word "film." 5-24-06 Cape Girardeau attorney and film supporter Morley Swingle has recently been appointed to the Missouri Film Commission advisory panel! Look for his involvement on this board to benefit the region's filmmakers and further promote Cape as a film town! 5-24-06 Some exciting new from SCHRADER TURNER FILMS that will have a profound effect upon Cape filmmaking! Check out the STF website at www.schraderturnerfilms.com for info on the planned "big-budget" feature film in the works! Also, "Mere Sentience" is complete and ready for the fest circuit! 5-23-06 Filming began yesterday on "Second Chance." The first scenes are in the can and they look beautiful! This is gonna be a good one! Production starts back up after 48. 5-18-06 Word has come down to us that KFVS12-TV is going to be covering Cape's efforts in the 48 Hour Film Project! They may even make it a multiple-parter and have crew filming our whole attempt! Other news media is expected to also report on the contest. It appears that the teams here in town are making considerable progress in preparation for the contest. Both teams are crewed and are actively securing locations, cast, music, and potential props! It looks to be a good year for Cape as we represent our region in St. Louis! 5-16-06 Michael Huntington, Chairman of the CIFA, was interviewed on the "Heartland Heartbeat Show" on local cable access yesterday. The show went well and will air sometime soon on Charter Cable. (We'll let you know when). Our recent visits with the video production students at the Career and Technology Center, and it's Director Randy McWilson, have been very encouraging about the future of filmmaking and cooperation in the region. We discussed increased involvement between our organization and the Center. We anticipate more student projects and films for fests, and will be looking at developing TV programming for local cable next month! 5-15-06 Another successful Casting Call was held at the Centenary Center last Saturday. Thanks to all who worked on reaching out to the talent in the area and to all those who are looking to get involved! We got some exciting projects ahead to work on together! 5-9-06 Another successful meeting was held last night at Grace's Cafe. Much was discussed, such as recent project developments and organizational matters. We talked about the upcoming 48 Hour Project, various shorts projects, possible local TV show production, feature scripts in development, and feature films in the works. We also chatted about the final locations of our Arts Center/Film Studio. We have narrowed it down to 3 possible sites. Our non-profit progress plan was also gone over. The next meeting wil be May 22nd at Buckner's in downtown Cape at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend and check us out! 5-8-06 A "Second Chance" production meeting was held yesterday. Dates of the shoot have been set and filming will begin on the 22nd! If anyone wishes to be a part of this project, attend the 2nd production meeting Sunday, the 21st at Breakaways or contact Michael for info. 5-1-06 The next CAC/CIFA meeting will be held Monday, May 8th at 7 p.m. at Grace's Cafe on Broadway. As always, there is much to discuss and much to plan. Be there! 4-30-06 A successful casting call was held last evening at the Centenary Center by the CIFA's Charles Parsons, Victor Kantchev, and Carrie Lloyd. A few talented individuals demonstrated their skills before the cameras and signed on to work on projects! The next call will be May 13th. We hope for them to get bigger and better and to become a regular thing! Good job, guys! 4-25-06 The CAC/CIFA held a meeting last evening at Breakaway's. The main items on the agenda were the upcoming casting call events and planning for the 48 HOUR FILM PROJECT. Charles Parsons and Victor Kantchev will be running a series of casting calls for area projects and talent pools beginning this Saturday April 29th from 2-5 p.m. at the Centenary United Methodist Church Center in Cape and will follow this up with another on the 13th of May. Other dates will follow. Headshots and other benefits will be offered to participants. For more info on these casting calls e-mail Charles at slashmatrix@gmail.com or contact the CIFA! As we have mentioned, there will be two teams (actually 3 if you count the SEMO video class) representing Cape filmmakers: Section Six Productions and Schrader Turner Films. We anticipate cooperation between the two teams with resources and talent and will do our best to make sure both teams make a good showing! Both teams have agreed to include the CIFA and the CFC logos in the final product as a show of solidarity with the Cape Film Movement! Cool. Production gets underway (finally) on UD's "Second Chance" short in May! Date have been scheduled for the shoot and deadlines have been set for editing completion. It will be shot on a few Monday afternoons, with most being outside locations. Some cast and crew are needed, so if you have Mondays free, get involved and let's make this movie! An "award-winner," we guarantee! E-mail Michael for info. 4-15-06 The 48 Hour Film Project has begun! The St. Louis leg of the competitiion has opened up for entries for the 48 spots for teams! We will definately be participating next year with a better table, more brochures, and some cool events! 4-4-06 Schrader Turner Films wrapped up filming this past week on "Mere Sentience"! The filming was fun, hard work, and very rewarding! Thanks to all who did such a professional job and demonstrated to the region the calibre of talent we have here in Cape!
